Harry Kane missed a penalty and was punished by Fabio Silva’s late equaliser as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund drew 2-2 in Der Klassiker at the Allianz Arena.
It was Kane’s first appearance since winning the Ballon d’Or, and Munich honoured him before kick-off, with the striker making his entrance separately from the other players. The match itself turned into a nightmare for him in the second half.
Laimer and Guirassy Trade Goals
Konrad Laimer put Bayern ahead in the 38th minute. Kane then saw his spot-kick strike the crossbar in the 57th minute. Moments later, Serhou Guirassy levelled the match in the 60th minute after the Bayern striker had been dispossessed in the build-up. Kane’s assist for Dayot Upamecano’s goal in the 66th minute restored Munich’s lead, but it was not enough to secure the win.
Silva came off the bench to equalise for Niko Kovac’s side in the 89th minute. Lennart Karl then struck the crossbar with the final kick of the game, and Dortmund held on to remain level on points with Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bellingham Goal Ruled Out
Earlier, Jobe Bellingham appeared to open the scoring after a mix-up involving Upamecano. A VAR check, however, showed Carney Chukwuemeka colliding with the goalkeeper as Bellingham swept the ball home, and the goal was disallowed.
Bayern took control shortly after. Michael Olise, who had earlier struck the post, sent Laimer through on goal, and the Austrian finished at the second attempt. Munich came into the match averaging over five goals per home game this season, and their dominance made Guirassy’s equaliser a shock.
Injury Concerns for Bayern
Bayern face a demanding period with a hectic schedule, and they are without their recovering head coach Vincent Kompany. Their injury list continues to grow. Luis Diaz is already out, and Ismael Saibari and Serge Gnabry both went off injured in the first half.
Bayern may take some comfort from keeping their unbeaten record intact. However, they had a chance to open a gap on their great rivals. Silva’s strike, aided by Kane’s rare miss, means both clubs remain unbeaten and level.
