Man United make decision ahead of Bournemouth clash in latest Michael Carrick update

Manchester United have signaled that Michael Carrick will stay in charge for Sunday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth.

The club have confirmed they will hold a pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. That indicates Carrick will not be sacked after Wednesday’s 4-1 thrashing by Como.

Carrick held his hands up in apology after the defeat.

United’s struggles continue

United have won only two games all season. They are on a run of seven matches without a win, sit 13th in the Premier League and 20th in the Champions League table, and have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Captain Bruno Fernandes criticized Carrick’s tactics after the Como defeat, in particular the fact the team was not told to press. That came a week after defender Lisandro Martinez launched an attack on sporting director Jason Wilcox.

Carrick said United’s performance in Como was “not acceptable” and that he was “angry” after it. The former United midfielder apologized to the travelling supporters in Como and said the defeat was “not about me”.

Preparations and fixtures

United’s players had a pre-planned day off on Thursday. The squad will report to Carrington for training on Friday, when Carrick will hold his pre-match press conference in the afternoon.

After facing Bournemouth at Old Trafford, United will travel to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea next Saturday. They will then host Roma in the Champions League and Aston Villa in the Premier League before the international break.
