Manchester United have been hit by fresh injury concerns ahead of their Champions League trip to Como, with up to ten senior players potentially unavailable after several high-profile names missed Tuesday’s training session.
Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez were among the absentees as United prepared for Wednesday evening’s game against Cesc Fabregas’ side. They are aiming to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of this season’s league phase.
Historic night on the shores of Lake Como
The match will take place at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia after UEFA gave its approval. It will be the first time United have faced Como in a competitive fixture.
However, Michael Carrick may now face a selection dilemma. Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Martinez and Rashford all missed Tuesday morning’s session at Carrington, which has sparked fears that none of them will be named in the travelling squad.
Who is missing?
Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven all missed the 1-1 draw with Leeds at the weekend. Martinez was replaced at half-time in that game after picking up a thigh injury.
Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road. Carrick has confirmed that the England international has been carrying a knock recently.
“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the United head coach said.
As expected, long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte did not take part in the session. Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton was also missing.
Leny Yoro is guaranteed to sit out against Como. He is serving a suspension after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
