Penrice wins first Scotland call-up as McTominay makes return

Scott McTominay, Kieran Tierney and Che Adams have returned to the Scotland squad for the remaining Nations League matches, at home to North Macedonia and away to Switzerland. McTominay missed games for club and country in September and October after a minor heart procedure.

James Penrice earns his first call-up, while Kristi Montgomery, a late addition last time, keeps his place. Montgomery has not yet won a cap.

Squad changes

Scott McKenna and Kenny McLean miss out through injury. Lennon Miller, Josh Doig, Colby Donovan and James Wilson drop out of the squad.

Head coach Sebastien Pocognoli named an extended pool of 28 for the first four matches, which included disappointing home defeats to Switzerland and Slovenia. For these fixtures, the Belgian has selected 26 players, including four goalkeepers.

What is at stake

Scotland are third in Group B1. They need a minimum of four points to have any chance of finishing second and reaching the promotion play-offs. One point would be enough to rule out any threat of relegation.

Switzerland lead the group on maximum points, with Slovenia three points ahead of Scotland.

Key players returning

Left-back Penrice, 27, has impressed for Rangers since arriving on loan from AEK Athens. Blackburn Rovers midfielder Montgomery, 22, has started all but one Championship match this season.

Napoli star McTominay has scored four goals in seven appearances since recovering from his heart procedure. Adams has doubled his Torino tally for the season, scoring two goals in five Serie A games after a brief layoff with an adductor issue.

Captain Andy Robertson will surpass Sir Kenny Dalglish’s record of 102 caps if the Tottenham full-back features in both matches, on 13 and 16 November.
